The sand bar sound

These swans shown bright in the morning sun against the marsh water.  I pushed the contrast in this image to give an almost angelic quality to the swans while holding onto the soft details within the darker passages.

Textures of an old pedal

The same pedal from the still life.  I like the wrinkles, the whites, tans, and caramel tones and the main vein running diagonally through the center.  The lone water drop makes a fun focal point I continually return to as I follow the central vein’s meandering flow and bumps and the surface texture of the pedal in the front.

Still life with an old pedal

Just having some fun at my desk when I set down my reading glasses and happened to see focused through the lens a flower pedal I had saved.  I positioned the pedal on a cedar block, set my glasses where I liked the image, and took a few shots.  Angles, curves, and framing of the pedal and glasses were the basis for my selection of the shot I liked most.  You don’t have to go far to happen upon a photo opp.

Euphorbia colors

At the Matthieu Botanical Conservatory, I saw this wonderful pattern of soft white with lavender lacing on a ridge of a Euphorbia plant.  The small heads protruding along the ridge remind me of snails peaking out.

Lavender veins and rain drops

Lavender veins and rain drops

Good shadows drifting across this broad leaf.  I really like the subtle tones of the leaf that seems to have been white washed over undertones of sage with the soft lavender of its veins.

Field pansy (1)

This little pansy caught my eye amongst the green of the grass.  Looking closer, I could see the delicate purple veins running from its core into the white pedals.  At its center, tiny finger filaments extended and a yellowish color got more intense as it melded inward.  Looking closer at the tiny life in nature that we normally miss as we go about our daily busy lives helps bring life into perspective.
