Morning fog in the yard

I like the peaceful glow of the morning fog.  I took this picture with a film camera to capture the deeper part of my yard fading from view with the softer image quality attributed from film images.  The distant glow is framed by the subtle tones of the trees and grass closer to me, and Hugo sticking his head through the deck spindles.

Creeping Charlie (2)

Another view of the small creeping charlie flowers and their leaves.  I used a wider format and placed the purple flower on the left half and the green leaf on the right.  Again, with the precise focal length of the macro lens only a sliver of the view is in focus, including the tiny translucent filaments in the flower and some wonderful texture of the leaf.

The pipes at St. Giles’ Cathedral

Organ pipes are fabulous in the right lighting and environment.  The way they’re arranged and reach skyward, metal or wood, their surrounding airy openness or structural containments, all add to the beauty that catches my eye.  Here at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, not knowing what I would find as I explored, the pipes’ sheen and inspiring grandeur caught my eye immediately as I walked further through the aisles.  They shone with a bright softness in the natural light that cast delicate shadows on the pipes and surrounding South Transept, the ruddy toned Austrian oak encasement and cross design of the central metal pipes.

A quiet evening on the porch

A quiet evening on the porch

We sold the house so this is one of the last times I’ll be able to sit on the front porch and enjoy the quiet and the beautiful view of Hessel Bay.  It was a chilly evening but I just put on my heavier jacket.  A few breaks in the clouds at dusk let some post-sunset light peak through on the horizon.  The golden porch light gave a warm softness to the porch rails and overhang.

Under the anchor

Under the anchor

After the cemetery, I drove up to Sault Ste. Marie to see if any lakers were going through the locks.  No lakers at the time, so I wondered about the grounds and came upon an anchor monumented in the park area within the tourist grounds.  All black with rivets and a sheen even in the cloudy fall daylight.  I took a few pictures and noticed the patterns and textures and composition of the underside of the anchor.  The iron almost seemed to be stretching and the soft lighting was beautiful.  I softened the tones and sharpness to accentuate the mood and abstraction.

Lavender veins and rain drops

Lavender veins and rain drops

Good shadows drifting across this broad leaf.  I really like the subtle tones of the leaf that seems to have been white washed over undertones of sage with the soft lavender of its veins.
