On High St. in Edinburgh

High St. is just a half block north of our apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland.  It was basically our main thoroughfare and central to wherever we wanted to walk.  Edinburgh Castle lies about a half mile west from here, Scottish Parliament about a half mile east, and many other points of interest in Old Town and New Town well within walking distance.  The green arm with lights overhanging just ahead is for a movie being shot here, the third Avengers film, “Infinity War”.  St. Giles Cathedral lies just past the green arm.

Outside Big D’s Diner

Outside Big D's Diner

On the way to visit my Mom and Dad at the cemetery, I stopped for breakfast in Pickford.  Good omelet, hash browns, and coffee… stop in if you’re ever in Pickford.  This dog was wondering about the field behind Big D’s having a good time.

The water mill

The water mill

An old water mill aside the pond in Heritage Park.  I like its simple architecture and blue color, and framed it with the contrasting greens of the trees and grass in the foreground.

Red wagon

Red wagon

There are two rustic buildings on the south stretch of the Cades Cove Loop: a house nearer to the road and a barn to the north or the house, both across the road from the Tipton Place.  The barn is a treasure of photo opps (for me anyway) and one of my favorites was this red wagon parked decades ago under the protection of the barn. Capturing the shaded tones within the barn from my vantage out in the afternoon sun was a challenge but I think I caught them in this shot.  Memorabilia from a simpler, albeit more challenging, lifestyle.

John Cable Mill

John Cable Mill

At the far west end of the Cades Cove Loop is the John Cable Mill, on the same grounds as the Becky Cable House, the Cades Cove Visitor Center, and the barn I liked so much for two barn shots below.  The Mill seems the epitomy of rustic; very old wood grayed from decades of weather, an old walkway to the water wheel, rock foundation visible next to the wheel.  Not that I’m an expert on rustic architecture… it just looks darn old and I could have spent several more hours there finding interesting areas on and around the Mill to shoot.
