Trickles on the Cut River

Trickles on the Cut River

The smallest streams of water, trickling through the sand and grass, some glistens of sunlight and stones shallow beneath caught my eye.  This is a short exposure but just long enough to soften the splashes and stretch the water some.  I composed the shot to share the image between the course splashes on the left and the smooth transparency on the right.  I like finding little treasures like this.

Meigs Falls through the trees

Meigs Falls through the trees

A small and tranquil waterfall that’s a popular attraction seen from the Little River Road.  Coming from deeper back in the woods, the Meigs Creek cascades down the Meigs Falls and meanders toward us to join the Little River.  I used the trees and brush to frame the Falls and Creek.

Little River by The Sinks

Little River by The Sinks

A cozy part of the Little Rive before it reaches The Sinks waterfall just yards ahead.  This 13 second exposure gives the rushing water a silky look amidst the large jagged rocks that line the river.

John Cable Mill

John Cable Mill

At the far west end of the Cades Cove Loop is the John Cable Mill, on the same grounds as the Becky Cable House, the Cades Cove Visitor Center, and the barn I liked so much for two barn shots below.  The Mill seems the epitomy of rustic; very old wood grayed from decades of weather, an old walkway to the water wheel, rock foundation visible next to the wheel.  Not that I’m an expert on rustic architecture… it just looks darn old and I could have spent several more hours there finding interesting areas on and around the Mill to shoot.

Cascading water along Tremont Rd (2)

Cascading water along Tremont Rd (2)

Tremont Road has many beautiful scenic treasures that can be seen and photographed from the road edge.  Moss covered rocks were bright green in the morning sunlight as this little cascade fell quickly down the rocks toward the stream.

Stream in the green

Stream in the green

This cascading stream through the woods of the Smokies was one of my favorite spots.  So quiet like the other areas we stopped at, I could stayed for hours enjoying the solitude and finding small treasures to photograph.
