Wading through flooded waters

This young buck slowly plodded through the flooded field this Saturday morning after long, heavy rains over night.   When I saw him I quickly grabbed my camera, whistled to catch his attention, and snapped a few pictures.  Fun photo app!  The buck didn’t pose long and continued his walk across the filed and behind the trees.

Japanese maple leaf (1)

After a spring rain I noticed the brilliant red of the Japanese maple leaf that had fallen onto a beautifully green leaf of a plant below the tree.  With the freshness of the rain the colors were vivid and the leaves shimmered from the wet and the soil was dark.  Since nature had provided such a wonderful display of shapes, textures, colors, and sheen, I just had to come up with a composition I liked.

Creeping Charlie (2)

Another view of the small creeping charlie flowers and their leaves.  I used a wider format and placed the purple flower on the left half and the green leaf on the right.  Again, with the precise focal length of the macro lens only a sliver of the view is in focus, including the tiny translucent filaments in the flower and some wonderful texture of the leaf.

Creeping Charlie (3)

In my front yard at the base of a huge maple tree (and spread into much of my lawn) the small light purple flowers of creeping charlie, though a weed, are a pretty little contrast among the green of their leaves and my grass.  I laid in the grass and put my macro lens at ground level, pointing slightly upward to get a larger than life perspective of these little spring flowers.  Here, the focus is on the middle, at the base of the flowers reaching upward and on the buds.

Irish green under gray

Our family trip to Ireland and Scotland was a lot of fun and a wonderful time.  After two days of adventures in Dublin we drove to Kilkenny to enjoy the town and castle for two days.  On our drive back to Dublin, we took back roads and on N81 came upon River Liffey.  The clouds and their reflection on the water were gray, the grass on the hillside was lush, and where sunlight shone through it lit up the green hillside beautifully.

Foliage along the falls

Foliage along the falls

A beautiful drive along Stevens Canyon Road in Mt. Rainier National Park with many places to stop and enjoy streams, waterfalls, and views of Mt. Rainier.  Just minutes past the Stevens Canyon entrance is a small bridge from which a small waterfall can be seen splashing down the rocks amid the lush forest.  We stopped for the photo opp, and upon standing on the bridge to take some photos I quickly realized the better view would be from below the bridge.  Carefully stepping down the slick wet rocks I setup as close to the stream as I could and enjoyed the view.

A waterfall on Falls Creek

A waterfall on Falls Creek

So much beautiful forest at the base of Mt. Rainier.  Creeks and rivers abound, and waterfalls cascade over mossy rocks, darkened by the wet and making the lush foliage brighter and greener.  The roads wind and switch-back, but no rus, just pull the car to the side of the road, get out, and take in the beauty.

Purple and green

Looking straight down on this flower, the rays of pedals radiating from the large center remind me of the sun.  Newer pedals in the center have yet to unfold.  I noticed how soft the color on the pedals appear, as if each one was painted with a soft brush, the purple pulled from the center outward on the upper tiers and outlining the greener pedals.
