Windy morning on Lake Superior

It had rained hard during the night and started clearing around sunrise.  The breaking clouds were beautiful blues, grays, and soft orange tones as they swiftly blew in off of Lake Superior.  White caps on the choppy waves could be seen far out onto the lake and as they rushed ashore.  Grand Marias’s north light station is on the horizon.  With this image, I wanted to capture the vastness of the view I had, of the broad expanse of the lake and big sky.

Irish green under gray

Our family trip to Ireland and Scotland was a lot of fun and a wonderful time.  After two days of adventures in Dublin we drove to Kilkenny to enjoy the town and castle for two days.  On our drive back to Dublin, we took back roads and on N81 came upon River Liffey.  The clouds and their reflection on the water were gray, the grass on the hillside was lush, and where sunlight shone through it lit up the green hillside beautifully.

The hook-up

The hook-up

I love the simplicity of the connecting hardware embedded into the steel of this piece, “Shang”, by Mark di Suvero on the campus of the University of Michigan.  Lots of shades of gray on this rainy morning and the red pin making its own subtle statement to the flatness of the sculpture’s suspended arm.  See more at U of M’s site for its public art.

Looking up Orion

Looking up Orion

This is the piece called “Orion” by sculptor Mark di Suvero on the campus of the University of Michigan.  On this cool and rainy Saturday morning, most of the colors were muted to shades of gray.  Even the striking reddish orange of Orion took a grayish quality that blended nicely into the sky.  I found the view looking up into the clouds the most appealing on this morning.  See more at U of M’s site for its public art.
